Johnson City City Council Donates $5,000 to Blanco County Veterans Memorial The Blanco County Veterans Memorial recently received a generous donation of $5,000 from the Johnson City City Council. The funds will be used for construction of the new memorial park to honor all veterans. The Blanco County Veterans Memorial Committee is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the military service of all veterans throughout the United States. Located in Johnson City, TX., the memorial will feature a Dedication Star, POW/MIA sculpture, retired flag depository, personalized pavers and personalized benches. The new memorial park will provide additional space to recognize the sacrifices of all veterans of Army, Marine Corp, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force. "We are extremely grateful for this donation from the Johnson City City Council," said Sherry Jenkins/Chair of the Blanco County Veterans Memorial. "This will allow us to build the memorial park that provides a dignified way to honor many more of the veterans from our country who have served our nation. It is a demonstration of the deep gratitude and respect our community has for all those who defend our freedom." The Johnson City City Council approved the $5,000 donation at their January 9, 2024 meeting. “The City of Johnson City is grateful to be a part of this historic project. We want to honor the Veterans who have defended us with no regard for themselves. Their selfless service has made our Community the safe and special place that it is.” states Mayor Stephanie Fisher. Construction on the new memorial wall is expected to begin in summer 2024 and be completed in November 2024. A dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting will be held once the memorial park is finished.
